In the springtime 2011 I did an spontaneous cycling trip to Mainz to visit an couchsurfer who actually had intended to visit Koblenz, but plans had changed.
It was a wondeful trip and I can highly recommend the route between Koblenz and Bingen as it has to so much to see and such wonderful pretty towns along the route to stroll along. And of course Koblenz and Mainz themselfes are wonderful cities :)
(i) advice It can get pretty cold in the shade and as the hills are very steep on this route, at certain hours of the day there will be only shade on the route.
And a funny thing: Both on the way to Mainz and on the way back I had headwind.
Have a look yourself:
mosel in koblenz
one of the first castles (marksburg)
high water levels of the last floods
the cycling path
another city that celebrates carnival ;-)
the two rivers rhine and the main meeting in mainz
a lonesome woman
the passage to the UNESCO World Heritage "Upper Middle Rhine Valley" next to Bingen
my constant companion at this day
